We had such a warm welcome into the community of Cerritos II. Ana Maria has been working with this group of 22 young moms for just under three years. It is magical to watch her engage with these women. It is so much more than just the presentation of information. She has developed relationship with each one of them. She knows their family situations. She is always seeking out ways to help. I often say, it is through authentic, trusting relationship that lasting change can occur.

A Simple Floor Made of Sand and Clay Can Make a Difference

Maria Estella is a young mother of 5 children. She has been very active participant in the workshops we have offered. It was a pleasure to be invited into her home to put an earthen floor in the small 10×15 foot room in which they all sleep. Diarrhea is a leading killer of children in the developing world, spreads more easily in homes with dirt floors. So, do respiratory and parasitic infections. It is a public health concern. By making a mixture of sand, clay dirt (which we dig up from around their home) and pine needles we can trowel it on just as though we are working with cement. When the surface is dry it is the sealed with linseed oil. Providing a sealed floor in place of a dirt floor can reduce parasitic infections by 78% and childhood diarrhea by 49%. It can save lives!!

As we reflect on the incredible journey into the heart of Cerritos II and the transformative impact on lives, we invite you to consider becoming a part of this change. Your support can contribute to creating more sealed floors, fostering authentic relationships within communities like Cerritos II.
